I was never one of those girls who dreamed of fairytale weddings. The thought of being a blushing bride, centre of attention makes me quiver.
Being a best maid or a brides maid does not tickle my fancy either, walking down that isle and seating at the high table is not my cup of tea. (Yes, I am kinda shy). Basically marriage has never been part of my grand life plans. I used to say that I will never get married, and in response,
I’m one of those easily impressionable folks who get influenced by advertising. Forget parents and good morals, ads are the real principle-forming compass. Ha! (I laugh at my own jokes a lot. It’s a mixture of arrogance and…um…anyway, you’ve been warned.) Golly, I love advertisements. There are geniuses behind the jingles, savvy wordsmiths behind the slogans, pure magic behind the production. (Didja see that? Didja? Huh?)
So I sit here and stare at the screen and think. The words must come to me they just have to come to me. Taunted by an evil cursor that seems to mock me and the silence that could make a pin drop sound like a Japanese earth quake the very notion of me being able to write anything by the time my deadline rolls up is almost absurd. I mean who can write a piece, properly, within 15 minutes and get away with it? That must be blasphemy of the highest order to the Gods of the words.
It is not everyday that you get to tell a friend how you value them and own up to some of the contributions they have made, which otherwise would have been hard or impossible. In many cases, the contributions are personal, but in some cases its in business.
When you start up your small shop and friends support you, its always nice to say thanks or show appreciation the best way you know how. I have found the value in telling my friends when am overawed by their generosity, kindness or honesty. I learned that you could lose a friend and don’t get to say all those things.
This statement makes more and more sense to me as time goes by. Women have made themselves a subject of men’s ridicule for a long enough time, and it is sad that we choose to do nothing about it. Women for centuries have been known to hold the household together despite only being liberated in recent years. It is the drive of a woman to see life through; no matter what
